What is IVF Treatment?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF treatment) is an advanced fertility treatment that involves retrieving eggs from the ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm in a lab. The fertilized egg is then transferred into uterus to achieve pregnancy.

IVF treatment is a highly effective fertility procedure and is frequently recommended for people with complex infertility problems. Our IVF clinic in Dallas offers tailored IVF treatment plans to meet your fertility needs and goals.

The IVF Treatment Process at Precision IVF

1. Preparation for the Cycle

To begin, patients may be prescribed birth control medication for a few weeks. This helps synchronize follicle growth, ensuring your ovaries respond better when stimulation begins.

2. Ovarian Stimulation

During this stage, you’ll take hormone medications for about 8–14 days to encourage multiple follicles to develop. Our team will closely monitor your progress with ultrasounds and blood work. Once your follicles are ready, a “trigger shot” (HCG or Lupron) is given to prepare the eggs for retrieval.

3. Egg Retrieval

About 35 hours after the trigger shot, the egg retrieval takes place. This is a short, outpatient procedure performed under sedation, where a thin needle gently collects eggs from the ovaries. The process usually takes just 15–30 minutes.

4. Sperm Processing

On the same day, fresh or frozen sperm is prepared in our andrology lab. Through advanced techniques, we separate the healthiest sperm to increase the chances of successful fertilization. If needed, sperm can be collected in advance and cryopreserved, or in severe cases, retrieved through a testicular biopsy.

5. Egg Fertilization

The retrieved eggs are then fertilized in the lab. This can be done conventionally, by placing eggs and sperm together in a dish or using a procedure called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. About 18–19 hours later, our team checks for fertilization and embryo development.

6.  Embryo Development & Selection

The embryos are carefully cultured in our lab for 5–7 days. On the day of transfer, the healthiest embryo (or embryos) are selected. Patients may also choose Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) to check for chromosomal health before transfer. Any remaining healthy embryos can be frozen for future use.

7. Embryo Transfer

A thin, flexible catheter is used to place the selected embryo(s) into the uterus. The procedure is usually painless and does not require anesthesia. Guided by ultrasound, we ensure precise placement for the best chance of implantation. In line with ASRM guidelines, we typically transfer only one or two embryos to reduce the risk of multiple births.

8. Next Steps

About 9–11 days after the transfer, a blood test is done to confirm pregnancy. If positive, we’ll continue close monitoring with blood work and ultrasounds. If pregnancy isn’t achieved, our specialists will review the cycle in detail and discuss the best next steps for continuing your IVF treatment Dallas journey.
